Bryant Street Theatre, Pialba Hervey Bay. |
Going to the movie theatre at Hervey Bay was a popular past time. The holiday haven had a number theatres. A reader remembers lazy, hazy sun drenched holidays full of beach jaunts with cousin, friends, aunts and uncles in tow. A trip to the theatre was a special treat after the sunburn and salt left children looking forward to the cool shade and dark of its depths.
This theatre had an interesting life. John Andersen from the Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum has told us it was originally located in Bryant Street, Pialba. It was the Public Hall Theatre. John tells us "It was later moved to the Vernon Hotel in Watson Street around the 1920s and was to become a dance hall". Unfortunately, this dream never eventuated. The building stayed vacant for a long time and then was turned into the Seaview Theatre by Vic Dougan.
Do you remember attending the theatre at this venue?
Did you go to the theatre at another location at the Bay?
We would love to hear your stories.
