Fraser Coast Libraries had a fellow from Gympie visit in search of an original image of the Perseverance Nugget. We were able to discover an interesting history of this piece. This Nugget, also known as the Curtis Nugget was the largest gold nugget ever found in Queensland.  The Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser of Saturday 15 February 1868 has details about this nugget. George Curtis's nephew Mr Valentine Brigg found the nugget in Sailors' Gully in Gympie. This Chronicle article claims the nugget weighed 1040 ounces. It was described as irregular in form, very pretty, the surface rough, the interstices filled with red earth and some parts of the piece look like beautiful pieces of frosted work.

The nugget was put on display at the Royal Hotel on Saturday the 15 and  the Monday and Tuesday- the 17th and 18th February,1868.

Despite its fame - no known photograph could be located of this nugget.

Do you know where we could find a photograph of  this nugget?
